Fishing Techniques / Tools / Equipment
Fish taken using live bait casting lures include Nile perch and many kinds of catfish, along with a great range of smaller species—used as live bait—obtained by spinning—including tigerfish. Together with a fixed spool or multiplier reel, we suggest a rod between 11 feet (3 meters) and 8 feet (2.4 meters). Smaller species need a 7 spinning rod with 5 kg (10 lb.) line.
Reels: For Nile perch and catfish, any reel-fixed spool or multiplier with 30-35 lb line (17 kg) would work. It relies on personal inclination and talent with a multiplier. Any reel you could reasonably throw tiny spinners is appropriate for tiger fish and smaller species.

Particularly for beach fishing from the steep, rugged rocks, hiking and safari boots are ideal for footwear. Because they are colder and the tsetse fly is less drawn to them, lightweight, light-colored fishing attire is ideal. Best are long sleeves and long pants; avoid blue or black dark colors anywhere at will, as these colors really attract the tsetse flies. Also advised are a lightweight rain jacket and a sweater for nights.

Point of Meeting
Our day visits take place in Entebbe outside UWEC (Zoo), Lugard Avenue, where secure parking is accessible and the pier from which we embark and return is a short walk away. Requested and for overnight travel groups, transport is set up from nearby Entebbe and Kampala hotels to and from the jetty.
Day Trips: Scheduling
Usually starting at 9.00 am or 1.00 pm, trips leave and return around 12.30 pm or 5.00 pm with a half-day about 4 hours and a full day around 8 hours on the water. About a 45-minute boat ride from Entebbe, fishing is conducted in nearby islands. The temperature and the way the fish are biting will determine the regions fished.
The lake may be rather choppy at certain times of year with big surges, so we usually fish from the protected coves. Along with tea and coffee, a picnic meal includes a chilled box of beers, mineral water and sodas. Anglers are allowed to pack extra refreshments needed.
What should one carry on board?
Given the normal day time temperatures on the lake—mid to late 20 degrees C—we advise you to pack as much sun protection as possible, hats, sunglasses, and creams. Sandals or strokes are a nice choice as, particularly while stepping on and off the boat, you can likely have wet feet! One sensible concept is insect repellant.
If you want to film “the big fish,” a camera; if you are interested in birding, a set of binoculars. While simple day attire like T-shirts and shorts is usually okay, we advise a rain jacket in case of poor weather and a sweeper or light jacket for colder temperatures during the nights.
