Welcome to the spectacular 9 Days Mountain Rwenzori Hiking Tour! Mountain Rwenzori is located along the border of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Located along the western rift valley, this mountain was first called ‘’Ruwenzori‘’ which means mountain of the moon and it is one of the main sources of water for river Nile.

Queen Elizabeth National Park and Virunga Park are located in the Park; this mountain is snow-capped. So this tour is organized for those people who love hiking and adventure. The highest point is 5,109m above sea level hiking becomes fun due to the transitional levels while seeing a variety of plants, animals, rivers, birds, lakes, etc. As we dive into this Tour expect to challenge yourself in many different ways. Detailed itinerary

Day 1; Transfer from Kampala to Kasese (Rwenzori National Park)

From Kampala/ Entebbe you will be picked up and head for a 6-7 hrs drive to Kasese. While traveling you will not be bored due to the amazing views you will have along the way which include landscapes, tea plantations, banana plantations, cattle on the roadside, etc. A stopover will be made at the equator and take photos then head to Mbarara where you will have lunch and do enough shopping for food staffs and other necessities for the hiking till the last day.  From there you will head straight to Kasese and register with the Mountaineering Service offices then check in with the camp, have dinner, and call it a day.

Day 2; Nyakalengija (1646m)-Nyabitaba hut (2652m)

Wake up early to a heavy breakfast and head to the Mountaineering Service offices at Nyakalengija where you will be briefed, and provided with guides and tools for hiking. The hiking will then begin lunch will be served along the way in the afternoon, you will come across the river Mubuku and Makoma rivers. After hours you will reach the sloppy areas near a forest, on reaching Nyabitaba hut you will have dinner and rest up for the night.

Day 3; The Nyabitaba hut- The John Matte hut (3414m)

Wake up in the morning for breakfast then proceed to hike for about 7 hours with lunch on the way, expect to see various animals, plants, old trees, and birds. Also, expect to view rivers Bujuku and Mubuku which are located near the slippery slopes of the mountain. After some hours you will rest at John Matte hut have dinner and call it a day.

Day 4; The John Matte hut – The Bujuku hut (3972m)

Wake up for breakfast after heading for Bujuku hut which is about 3-5 hours of trekking time. You will come across various physical features and animals including river Bujuku and lunch will be served along the way. Proceeding with the trekking, you will come across Bujuku hut where you will have dinner and rest up for the night.

Day 5; The Bujuku hut – The Elena hut (4430m)

Bujuku hut will be left after having breakfast then head to the Bigo Bogo the home of Giant lobelias jumping from tussock and moving through the dense vegetation plus viewing mountain Baker and Stanley. Following the Bujuku River you will proceed to the Elena hut where you will have dinner and a long-needed rest.

Day 6; Climb to Mount Stanley

On this day after breakfast, you will climb up Elena Glacier and then to Stanley Plateau. At this point or level, you will need crampons which will make climbing easier. From the Stanley plateau, you will proceed to Margherita Glacier up to the summit, after which you will slope down to Elena hut via Kitandara hut. From this point, you will climb Mount Backer or Mount Luigi di Savoia and later head to Kitandara hut for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 7; The Kitandara hut – The guy Yeoman hut (3261m)

The hike will take about 6 hrs to complete. You will leave Lake Kitandara and reach mountain Stanley and Baker glaciers through muddy trails you will head to rocky shelters the starting point of the Kabamba valley. Descending to the Guy Yeoman hut that is surrounded by beautiful landscapes, views, rivers, and lots of vegetation cover. And since this is your resting point, have dinner and call it a day.

Day 8; Guy Yeoman hut-The Nyabitaba hut

After having breakfast, you will head out and start climbing the slopes of mountain Rwenzori around River Mubuku while taking trails, you will pass through the Kichuchu rocks. Using these trails you will head back to the original route by River Bujuku where you will proceed to your camp for dinner and rest.

Day 9; Nyabitaba hut – Nyakalengijo for departure

As usual, you will wake up have breakfast, and get ready for the last day of hiking mountain Rwenzori. On descending for about 2 hrs you will reach Nyakalengija where you will be able to see several birds, a few mammals, several primates, etc. When you reach the bottom of the starting point of hiking, you will be picked up and head back to Kampala / Entebbe, along the way, you will make a stopover and have lunch then head straight to Kampala or Entebbe.  This will mark the end of your 9 Days Mountain Rwenzori Hiking Tour.
